How to prepare for exams

In this post I am goon be sharing how to prepare for exams. Recently schools and colleges are reopen after covid lock down. so its a time for exams. Although I am not  a study specialist or any psychological expert. But I am also a student of master. I have been taking part in examination for so long. and I always scored good marks in examination. There are some strategies which obviously working for my self that's why I scored good marks. So in this most I am gonna share those.

Exam's days has always been hard. But this time it is even harder than before. Because of this covid situation and frequent closure of educational institutions. Students have lost their motivation and interest. So much time is wasted.

But here I am to help you to prepare for your exams so, that you may get succeed.

So, let's start.

Some tips that may help you to prepare for exams or stay motivated during exams.

  • First thing you need to do is to gather all the things you need to study. All  your summaries, your notes, your syllabus the power point off the teacher and of course, your books. This may sound so obvious, but I know a lot of students who don't even have their books when the exams are coming.
  • The second thing you should do is to make a planner So first of all, pick up the calendar, and declare the day of war, which means, mark it. From that day to whatever number of days are left, count them. It's okay, don't panic, just count them. And accordingly divide your remaining syllabus, depending upon which subject is time consuming or is easy or scoring,  and accordingly allot your time to each subject. Make sure you leave one or two days before the exam especially for revision or a backup if you're behind on your schedule or to practice a little bit more. Here, the most important thing is if you have only one week to complete a subject,  then you need to take that deadline seriously. Don't leave things for last minute, and stick to your study plan.
  • when you're going to start studying you should constantly keep in mind what is the exam going to look like? this is going to make you study a lot more efficiently so when you know the exam is going to be a lot of theory questions of course, you're going to study all the definitions by heart or if you know that you have to solve some cases that you need to practice some cases at home.
  • If you notice that you're running out of time it's time to prioritize  so, study the most important things and if you notice that you are spending too much time on a chapter, just skip it and go to the next chapter and if you have some time left you can go back to the chapters that you didn't completely study because they were too hard or too boring or whatever. Also consult past year papers . It is a great tool.
  • Another tip is that do some practice of writing also because in exam preparation we forgot this important point. we keep focus on just remembering content. and during exams we couldn't complete the paper even though we know all the answers just because of writing.
  •  Everyone has their own time when he is better able to concentrate on study. For you it may be morning, evening or night. For me it's morning. It is the best time to study. I get up early in the morning and study. Find the time that is suitable for you to study.
  • Also one thing that help me to stay motivated for study. I keep dreaming about the day when there would be my last exam and  I'll be free. Thinking this gives me motivation that there are only few days of hard work then I'll be free and do whatever I want to. Thinking there are only few days of hard work help me to work even harder because these are only few days.
  • I avoid all unproductive activities as much as possible. But I do watch little bit of tv. Mostly at night because that time I usually don't study.
  • If you are feeling tired or bored think about the time when you did excel in your exams, think about how long you have been through to reach here also think about good and relaxing days waiting for you.
  • Also take mini breaks while you are study. Because if we are studying constantly there is more chances that we lost concentration. And this actually happens with me. When I lose concentration and cannot understand even the simple topics I'll take small break.
  • One thing I don't compromise is sleep and food. I will study whole day but I sleep on time. I don't study till late at night because I can't concentrate at that time. I don't have this habit. But I get up early than normal days. Still have proper sleep. Sleep is vital for your mental and physical energy. There are certain things which we can't avoid like food,  sleep,  bath. You have to manage time for all these.
  • Exams can be stressful, and if you get caught in the trap of stress, you won't be able to concentrate. Stress releases cortisol in your body, which makes it difficult for the brain to remember information. So don't stress about exams, you focus on your preparations, and worry about the results after your exams. Again, take proper sleep to reduce stress. Also, move. If you don't want to do exercise then just go for a walk. Get some fresh air and let yourself relax . Any kind of physical activity will increase your energy levels, and this will also improve your memory.
  •  The last and the most critical tip, which is Active Recall and Spaced Repetition Technique. If you are using techniques such as re-reading and highlighting, then let me break it to you, that these techniques are not at all effective. And I am not saying this, but researchers say this. If you want to remember things for a long time, then use Active Recall and Spaced Repetition Technique.

That's it for this post. I hope this post help you and you may score good marks in your exams.
